Cuba is a charming, welcoming and above all, a beautiful country. It’s no wonder that many tourists flock here to explore its diversity and uniqueness to the world. There is something about Cuba that draws people’s attention and I was curious to find out.

Cuba is exactly what you would expect a country unexposed to the United States to be. Being an American myself, I actually appreciated the lack of American influence on the island. For once, I didn’t see a McDonalds or a Starbucks around each corner, nor did I see the latest Ford vehicle cruising down the streets. No American culture anywhere for miles was a blessing! This was RAW Cuba and I was excited to finally be able to visit a country that many Americans only dream of going. You may be asking, how was I the fortunate one to get there? Well, I was lucky enough that I was working on a Japanese cruise ship at the time and Havana was one of its ports of call. So there was my free pass.

So here I was, standing in the middle of the streets of Havana taking in all of its glory in one day. That’s right, just one day was all I had to explore Havana before returning back to the ship. Being a passionate travel photographer, I made it my mission to capture a day in the life of Cuba.

I wandered the streets, through narrow alleys and neighborhoods far from the center to get a better taste of life in Cuba. Through my one-day journey, I met some of the most inspiring people and characters and learned more about the real situation that Cuba is facing through the actual locals themselves. I was pleased to discover that despite the hardships that many face, I would say that Cubans are happy people with a lot of charisma and a great sense of humor, which I love.

So needless to say that my short time in Cuba was more than memorable and I was able to take back with me some of their humor, wittiness, and great mojitos back to the good ol’ U.S. of A.
